Southwest Corridor Healthcare Alliance

In the wake of the devastating 2021 earthquake, HEI began leading a new project to help strengthen and rebuild southern Haiti’s shattered healthcare system.

With generous support from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, we created the Southwest Corridor Healthcare Alliance: a network of healthcare facilities seeking to not only recover from the disaster but also improve their standards of care for the people they serve.

The alliance consists of nine facilities: St. Boniface Hospital; Centre de Santé de Saint Louis du Sud; Centre de Santé Madame Bernard; Centre de Santé de Kay Kok; Centre de Santé de Maniche (CSM); Hôpital Immaculée Conception; Hôpital Lumière de Bonne Fin; Hôpital Communautaire de Référence D’Aquin; and Centre le Reconfort Sud Haïti.

Since this project began in 2022, we have:

Strengthened the Regional Referral Network by improving communication, collaboration, and mentorship among alliance facilities towards the goal of ensuring speedy and efficient access to specialized care for patients with advanced needs.

Enhanced the Quality of Maternal, Neonatal, and Child Health (MNCH) through clinical trainings focused on standardizing skills and enhancing knowledge.

Strengthened Region-Wide Resilience to Disaster by creating an alliance-wide disaster preparedness committee and providing disaster response trainings tailored to a variety of staff roles.

As we continue to advance the great progress we have made on the objectives above, we are also working to improve the quality and availability of medical equipment throughout the region. SBH’s REPARE team and several of our US-based partner organizations are working to assess each facility’s existing biomedical equipment. We will then work with each facility to procure appropriate equipment via in-kind donations. Our team will ensure the equipment can both be usable in each facility’s specific context, and that spare parts are easily sourced to ensure all equipment can be well maintained.
