The Rapid Response Fund

We’re launching a new fund to help us respond to ongoing crises while keeping our core health and support services running uninterrupted.

Every dollar you give to this fund between now and December 31st will be DOUBLED, thanks to a generous $150,000 match.

At Health Equity International, we are trusted to manage the toughest emergencies. But responding to emergencies requires tons of resources and the flexibility to find and purchase them, regardless of the cost.

Our new Rapid Response Fund is dedicated to helping us lead during emergencies while ensuring all of our core health and support services remain fully operational.

Thanks to a generous, anonymous donor, every dollar you give to this fund during the month of December will be matched, up to $150,000.

All donors who make a gift of $2,500 or more will become a member of our Rapid Response Fund Founder’s Circle. But, be becasue of the match, you only need to give $1,250 to become a member if you give by December 31st, 2024. As a member of the Founder’s Circle, you will receive special recognition on this web page, in annual reports, and in other resources to honor your major support of this life-saving initiative.

What Are We Responding To?

In Haiti

The staff at St. Boniface Hospital have been working tirelessly to manage the effects of Haiti’s ongoing humanitarian crisis while continuing to provide uninterrupted care across our dozens of services.

Over the past five years, we have also managed sudden, live-threatening emergencies. A once-in-a-generation pandemic, a deadly earthquake, a resurgence in cholera—we led region-wide responses to all of these and saved thousands of lives. And, most recently, we immediately sprung into action and created an impromptu burn unit when a fuel truck exploded and left dozens of patients in need in urgent care.

These are just a few of the many crises we have contended with while also seeing more than 150,000 patient visits annually. Even during an emergency, we still have hundreds of patients each day who rely on us to deliver babies, care for infants in our NICU, provide urgent surgeries, manage complications from noncommunicable diseases like diabetes, and so much more.

With your support, our new Rapid Response Fund will help us lead during emeregncies while ensuring all our core health and support services remain fully operational, no matter what. Our patients have nowhere else to go—they are depending on us, and we must be ready.

In Massachusetts

HEI began partnering with the State of Massachusetts in 2024 to provide shelter and stabilization services for migrant families who are experiencing homelessness. The majority of migrants are fleeing extreme levels of severe, life-threatening conflict in Haiti and other countries around the globe. These families need community, compassion, and support to rebuild their lives.

HEI is currently operating two shelters in Middlesex County for more than 40 families who arrived with nothing more than the clothes on their backs. Each day, our new shelter and stabilization team helps our clients access the essential services they need to get back on their feet, achieve self-sufficiency, and live independently.

But as we help our families work towards their long-term goals, we also have to meet their urgent, short-term needs. That’s where the Rapid Response Fund comes in. From infant formula and playpens to public transportation passes and more, the fund will help us quickly purchase goods that help our clients live with dignity as they build the next chapter of their lives.
