A Safe Place to Give Birth

On Valentine’s Day this year, a young patient named Scheelove gave birth to her first child at St. Boniface Hospital. Here is her story, in her own words:

“I am 16 years old. I was living in Port-au-Prince, but because of the problems with gangs, I left the area so I could come [here] to give birth. My father lives here and he always used to tell me how good this hospital is because he’s been getting care here for a long time.

It’s my first time coming to SBH.

I arrived at the hospital on February 14. I was in great pain. They accompanied me into a room so I could give birth. I had a little tear during the delivery, but aside from that I’m OK.

I like the way the hospital provides care, and I wish that all mothers could come here to give birth.

Scheelove recovered well after giving birth at SBH.

Scheelove named her baby boy Darbens.
