Rev. John Unni was born in Maine, grew up in North Reading, Massachusetts and attended St. Michael’s College in Colchester, Vermont. After graduating in 1983, he taught English at Christopher Columbus High School in Boston’s North End. Fr. Unni attended Brighton’s St. John Seminary and was later ordained to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Boston in 1992. As a priest, he served at St. William Parish in Dorchester, St. Richard Parish in Danvers, and was Catholic chaplain at Northeastern University while serving as pastor at St. Ann University Parish in Boston. He has served as pastor of St. Cecilia Parish in Boston for the past ten years. Fr. Unni serves on the Board of Directors at the Pine Street Inn as well as the Board of Advisors at Build Health International. Following a transformative experience with the poor in Haiti almost thirty years ago, and inspired by wonderful parish experiences over the last twenty-five years, Fr. Unni’s parish ministry embraces a commitment to gospel values and spiritual growth in the community, especially with those who are marginalized or impoverished in any way.
