Izumi Foundation Partners with HEI/SBH for 2018-2019

The IZUMI Foundation, a Boston-area foundation that focuses on improving healthcare in the world’s poorest places, has partnered with HEI/SBH since 2015 to support maternal, neonatal and child healthcare at SBH in Fond des Blancs, and the organization’s satellite primary care clinic in Villa.

With generous support from donors like the IZUMI Foundation, the first year (starting in March 2015) of the Maternal and Neonatal Health Center at SBH saw record numbers of patients. This trend was mirrored in the second year as well as throughout the hospital, where there was a 40% increase in the number of hospital visits from 2015 to 2016 and at the Villa Clinic where there was a 34% increase in outpatient visits from the previous year. In 2017 SBH staff provided 8,500 prenatal visits for expectant mothers, and delivered over 2,800 babies.

The IZUMI Foundation recently announced a new round of support for HEI/SBH’s Maternal, Neonatal, and Child Health program. Beginning in January 2018, this grant—totaling $100,000 over two years—will allow HEI/SBH to continue to grow and strengthen maternal, neonatal and child health services for people in southern Haiti. It will ensure that SBH and Villa Clinic staff will have access to the vital equipment and supplies needed to provide care to tens of thousands of patients over the course of the year. It will also provide training and professional development opportunities for staff, and help strengthen community health outreach into nearby communities.

We are grateful to the IZUMI Foundation for their continuing partnership in ensuring that mothers and children in southern Haiti have access to the high-quality healthcare that they need and deserve.
