Our internal medicine service provides adult inpatient care for everything from noncommunicable diseases to gastrointestinal problems.
In 2025, the service admitted 801 patients—55% of whom were women, and 45% of whom were men. Although the service cares for patients as young as 15 years old, the service tends to see patients who are 40 or older. On average, patients stay in the service for about 8 days.
As the crises in Haiti force more hospitals to close, patients have fewer places to turn to for care. As a result, we’ve seen an increase in the number of patients needing internal medicine services, many of whom are arriving in emergent circumstances. Even when our beds are completely full, patients will wait until they can be admitted because there is simply nowhere else to turn. Our hardworking team works around the clock to see every patient and provide them with the quality, dignified care they deserve.
